Personal Statement
Andrea's medium of work ranges from photography to film and focuses on concepts and themes surrounding dark humor and surrealistic horror.
Her works are saturated with obviousness, clichés, and bad jokes. By parodying mass media through dark humor and exaggerating certain formal aspects inherent to our contemporary society, she incorporates iconic symbols and imagery in an attempt to bring the viewer into a world of ongoing steadiness that represents the stream of daily events.
The moments that are depicted only exist to punctuate everyday human drama to clarify one’s existence and to find poetic meaning in everyday life.
She challenges the binaries people continually reconstruct between "Self" and "Others" through the use of nightmarish scenes and questions the idea of what society deems as “normal” about one’s self and express that the abnormal is as, if not more, beautiful than ordinary. 'Normal' is only relative.
